The HAL Volunteer Program is the cornerstone of all
our work. HAL Volunteers are our most valuable asset. Without volunteers,
the cost of rescue work would increase exponentially.
What can be more rewarding then interacting with animals
and receiving their unconditional love? You contribution of time and talent
can help save precious lives!
Whether you would like to open your home to an animal in
need or if you just have a couple of hours of spare time every other day
or weekend, WE NEED YOU! We have many volunteer opportunities to suit
many different lifestyles, skills and interests!
It is vitally important that each volunteer realize that his or her piece
is critical to the success of our rescue work. No matter how small or
insignificant you may feel your role might be, we are relying upon you.
We ask that once you have agreed to an assignment, that you fulfill your
commitment.
VOLUNTEER QUALIFICATIONS: Individual must be reliable, have a basic
understanding of HAL's mission and goals, have good people skills, be
flexible, and a have a great sense of humor.
We need the following:
Dog Walkers
- Walk dogs that are in temporary boarding
Dog Handlers
- Handle dogs at Mobile Adoption events
- Attend to needs of dogs at Mobile Adoptions making certain they are
comfortable and properly restrained keeping humans and other animals
safe at all times
- Ensure that the dogs behave and are presented well to enhance the
likelihood of adoption
- Make certain dogs are given water and treats and have toys (provided
by HAL)
Cat Care Volunteers
Grants Writers
- Review grant applications
- Prepare grant applications
- Identify supporting documentation and exhibits needed to accompany
application
Transportation
- Pick up and deliver dogs and cats to foster families
- Pick up and deliver dogs and cats to Mobile Adoption
Dog Trainers
- Provide training for foster and adoption families
- Work with "challenged" dogs in need of behavior modification
Events Planners
- Take leadership on a specific special event developing a task list
and timeline,
- Assign responsibilities to Event Supporters,
- Supervise Event Supporters to ensure project remains on target,
- Coordinate and manage the event
- Work with Marketing Committee to develop publicity and materials for
the project.
Events Supporters
- (Events may range in size and complexity from something as simple
as a sidewalk bake sale, to a band/nightclub fundraiser, to a cocktail
party with live entertainment, or possibly even an art auction.)
Take responsibility for a specific event task (e.g., food and beverages,
music, materials, advertising, transportation, setup, cleanup, etc.)
