Home At Last Rewarded for “Outstanding Contribution” by Maddie's Fund

A Lifesaving Award acknowledging the outstanding contribution of Home At Last Animal Rescue, the City of Berkeley Animal Services, and the Berkeley East-Bay Humane Society has been awarded by Maddie's Fund, The Pet Rescue Foundation along with a large financial reward.

This coalition is the first in California and the third in the nation to receive this award, which recognizes the reduction in euthanasia rates in the Berkeley area from over 60% to under 10%. “Maddie’s Fund is proud to reward this incredible lifesaving accomplishment,” said President, Richard Avanzino. “Although an adoption guarantee has been in place for the past six years, the Berkeley coalition has operated under the radar in the Bay Area shelter community. We hope these outstanding East Bay organizations will now receive the recognition they richly deserve.”

Home At Last has received $97,440 and will use it to pay outstanding bills and to provide a reserve to weather the current recession.

Build-A-Bear Workshop Bear Hugs Foundation
Awards grant to Home At Last for Medical Care!

Home At Last Animal Rescue is very pleased to announce a grant from the Build-A-Bear Workshop Bear Hugs Foundation in support of its work in rescuing and finding loving homes for healthy cats, dogs, kittens and puppies who would otherwise be euthanized.

Medical care for rescued animals is a major budgetary challenge for Home At Last. Kittens especially are very susceptible to upper respiratory infections. The Build-A-Bear Workshop Bear Hugs Foundation has come to our rescue with a grant of $1,000 for the prevention and treatment of upper respiratory infection in our kittens. The Build-A-Bear Workshop Bear Hugs Foundation is committed to making life more bearable for children, families and pets, in need of a helping paw. With the sale of each full-sized Bearemy’s Kennel Pals friend – a collection of Build-A-Bear Workshop plush dogs – one dollar is donated to domestic pet programs including local animal shelters, stray pet rescue and rehabilitation organizations, and pet education programs around the country. These funds are available to qualified non-profit organizations in the United States and Canada through a quarterly grant process. Visit www.buildabear.com for more information.

This is our second grant from Build-A-Bear. In 2006 we received a grant to expand our outreach to Richmond and adjacent areas.

Thank you, Build-A-Bear!
