Check Out Leo -- An abandoned but awesome guy looking for his forever home.
Just look at this handsome guy and his amazing amber eyes – he’s so happy and relaxed you would
never know how tough he recently had it. Leo was living on his own in a vacant lot.
He was likely abandoned (lots of foreclosures in the neighborhood), had been injured,
and was scared of people. Fast forward a few weeks - now that he knows that folks aren’t going to be mean
to him, he’s been the happiest and friendliest dog you could imagine!
Leo is, we think, Staffordshire Terrier and perhaps American Bulldog – he’s
about 70 pounds, and so is between the two breeds in size, He’s been neutered,
checked by a vet, and has had his shots. He’s pretty mellow once he adjusts to a
new space, and will happily lie by your side or follow you as you go about your routine.
He had a knee injury before we found him so though he is fully mobile, we’re trying
to keep him a bit quiet to finish up the healing process. Leo has been great with our
small rescue dogs. Our not-so-nice terrier has growled and snapped at him,
and Leo just politely backed away. He has had a temperament assessment by a
professional dog trainer, and passed with flying colors with the exception of
needing some more socialization with other large dogs which we’re now working on.
Her ending summary was “I find Leo to be a very sweet natured dog.
Leo is highly trainable because he is so responsive and eager to please.
He bonds quickly and has a calm and loving demeanor. I think he would do
well in a home with children, perhaps older children simply because of his size.
I think he has the potential to be good around other dogs with more socialization
and perhaps a training program.”
He has a perfect track record of no accidents in
the house, knows a couple of basic commands, and he’s been very responsive to training.
