Boots is a handsome and surprisingly sweet 2 yr old boy (approx 65 lbs) who has made many friends on his stressful
journey from being given up due to a family separation, to his stay at the Berkeley Shelter and now with us.
He is quite the sensitive soul, patient and not very demanding, affectionate, observant, responsive &
tolerant of dogs but he needs a pack leader to show him the way. Don't we all???
Boots is crate trained & house-broken, very gentle with treats, no food aggression, stays very quiet at home
except for barking at strangers but just enough to deter any would be intruders! Loves going for car rides &
is a very well behaved passenger! Boots LOVES to play ball and go for walks!!! It's a tie which is his
favorite!
I think he would do well in a home where he's the only dog or in a home with another dog but it will depend
on who the other dog is! A docile female could be the right match. He truly likes other dogs but doesn't
really have doggie manners yet and is the pushy type, but he does quite well with small ones!
A trainer has temp tested "Boots" with other dogs and found him to be initially excitable, then he does fine.
He would be ok being placed with a female and maybe even a male, if that dog were calm, and well socialized.
He is even less reactive now, then he was when tested. He just needs some LDC: LOVE, DISCIPLINE &
CONSISTENCY with a dog savvy owner who can mold his character like a sculpter so he can become great!
He's one of the quiet ones that tends to get over-looked for several reasons which we don't need to go
into but ALSO because of the "black dog" syndrome so we are trying to get him in the spot-light where
he belongs! Contrary to superstition. Black cats and big black dogs are the embodiment of luck,
elegance, and nobility. Black is a heroic color, often symbolizing life and prosperity and beauty.
Don’t discriminate. Boots is a majestic dog. Adopt a big black dog. Adopt Boots. Save a life.
